GIRLS’ COLLEGE SITE
Sir, With typical Wanganuimindedness, “Parent” published a letter in your columns on Saturday condemning the site of the proposed new Girls’ College at Wanganui East. His (or her) objection was the danger of fogs along the river. There may be a great deal in the argument raised, but it is rather foolish all the same. Why was Wanganui ever built along a river valley at all? But having been built there, is there any proof that the children of Wanganu* East, along Anzac Parade, or along Somme Parade for that matter, are any the less healthy than those born and reared on St. John’s or Durie Hills? They may think they but there is no concrete evidence to prove it. Nor is there any concrete support to an assertion that people who have lived their lives in the valley of the Wanganui are any less robust than those who have lived on some city on a hill high above the fogs. Why is it that we bring these petty, fogging arguments into things in Wanganui? Isn’t tere one thing we Wanganuiites can be unanimous about, even if it is a site for a girls’ college?—l am, “ANOTHER PARENT.’ Wanganui, Oct. 12, 1937. Wellington; Mr. C.
