TRIMMER ARRESTED

FRACAS ON SHIP TWO MEN IN HOSPITAL SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES [ Per Press Ahbociation. I AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. A seaman and u. bushman received head injuries and had to oe taken to the Auckland Hospital as the outcome of a brawl on board the Port Line steamer Port Brisbane a little after 6 o’clock on Saturday evening. A trimmer who is a member of the ship’s crew was übscquently arrested. William McLeod, a seaman, aged 38, and Charles Hunter, aged 23, a bushman, a friend on holiday from the North Auckland district, went on board the Port Brisbane at about 6.10 p.m. and were met by one of the ship’s trimmers. An argument began as the three men reached No. 1 hatch, and the argument culminated in an exchange of blows. Other members of the crew came along and separated the three men, and McLeod and Hunter went below to McLeod s cabin. It is alleged that while they were there a third man went below and attacked them with a 12-inch steel file. McLeod seemed badly hurt and he was taken to hospital by the ambulance. Hunter was injured also about the head, and though at first he did not appear to have suffered much hurt he subsequently was sent to hospital in a taxi.

The hospital authorities reported to-day that the condition of both men was only fair.
