Mrs. C. C. Corfe, of Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs. T. M. Bamber, Wanganui East. Mrs. H. Watkins, New Plymouth, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Follett, Durie Hill. Miss Marjorie Saunders, St. John’s Hill, who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Wanganui during the week-end. * * * * Mrs. J. Hunter, of Ngaturi, has been paying a short visit to Hawera. • * * ** Mrs. W. Glenn returned to Kakatahi at the week-end after a holiday spent in Wellington. Dr. F. C. Hutchison and Mrs. Hutchison have returned from Hamilton, where they attended the golf championship tourney. Mrs. Heath, Te Awamutu, is staying with her sister, Mrs. F. Burnet, Boydfield Street, Wanganui East. Mrs. P. S. Whitlock, Somme Parade, who is visiting Auckland, is the guest of the Rev. and Mrs. Mitchell, Mount Albert.

Mrs. John Miller, Durie Hill, will leave next week for Pukekohe, Mr. Miller having been transferred to the Union Bank there.

Mrs. Gray has returned to Wanganui from Hamilton, after visiting her son, Mr. Eric Clare.

Mrs. F. J. Williams, who has been spending some time in Wanganui, left on Saturday on the first stages of her return journey to Papua.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Burnet, Hunterville, were visitors to Wanganui this week for the Silcock—Bain wedding.

Miss Cohen, who has been in Melbourne for a few years, is returning to New Zealand, and will visit Wanganui shortly. Mrs. J. H. Salmon, St. John’s Hill, is at present in Wellington, where she will meet Mr. Salmon’s mother, who is coming from Australia to be their guest in Wanganui. Mrs. Christie and Mrs. Instone have returned to Manaia after spending a holiday in Wanganui as the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Davies, Victoria Avenue. Mrs. Hanks, Durie Vale, was hostess recently at a party to aid the funds of the Durie Hill Croquet Club. An enjoyable time was spent by all. A competition for a pewter plaque was won by Mrs. Rountree. ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced of Edward Oswald Gosney, eldest son of Mr and Mrs John Oscar Sundborn, of Wanganui, to Miss Winifred Madden, of Halcombe.

The engagement is announced of Olive Muriel, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Parkes, Sandon Block, Hunterville, to James Alden, third son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ivey, Parcmata, Wellington.
