HOUSING LOANS

APPLICATIONS BY LOCAL BODIES [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. Sixteen applications by local bodies for housing loans so far have been approved by the State Advances Corporation, according to an announcement made by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, Hon. J. A. Lee, in an interview to-night. The number of houses to be erected was 132 and the amount of the loan authority £2-12,595. “The Dunedin City Council has applied for a second loan of £lOO,OOO, which will have the effect of increasing the total by another 85 houses at least,” said Mr Lee. “The provision.: whereby local authorities may erect houses with 3 per cent, money foi local citizens, are becoming increasingly popular, and applications are coming to hand regularly. A total of 132 houses has been added to the housing department’s total of ovci 1600 houses now arranged for.
