POWER BOARD AFFAIRS

MONTHLY MEETING INCREASED METER READINGS Routine busin es was enacted at the monthly meeting of the WanganuiRangitikei Electric-power Board held yesterday. It was decided to place the portion of the board’s loan which was not required immediately in the Post Office Savings Bank in order that it may earn interest. There has been a steady enquiry for investment, in this loan and to date a sum of 111.700 had been applied for. In connection with revenue from ; meter readings during the month it was stated that this totalled £9420 5s 7d —an increase of more than £Bl5 on (that collected for the corresponding (period of last year. Poles (were ready for shipment by the last j boat, but were locked out owing to I shortage of space. The next direct boat leaves Newcastle on the 20th of this month and it was promised by the contractors that they would d‘> their utmost Io get the poles away. In the Marton area a considerable ! amount has been done in the past jmonth in connection with mainteniance and inspection of lines and a number of pole replacements have ■beer* made. In the Turakina Vallej' [the 6600-volt line has been reinsu!lated in order that it will carry the 111,000 volts necessary for work on the ’Turakina tunnel. ! Alteration to the Public Works De- ' partment’s original plans has called | for considerable modification of the electrification scheme at the Fordell I deviation. i The condition of the brickwork in the boilers at the power house is such I that, repairs, costing approximately ‘£loo, will have to be carried out im|mediately.
