MAJESTIC THEATRE

“AS GOOD AS MARRIED” Picture-goers should thoroughly enjoy the pleasing comedy-romance, “As Good as Married,” the New Universal film, starring Doris Nolan and John Boles, which commences at the Majestic Theatre to-day. It is not a great or an epic film, but it is entertaining in capital letters. Doris Nolan is the leading lady, and she brings to fulfilment the possibilities shown in her first picture, “The Man I Marry.” John Boles is seen in a new and refreshing light as the wealthy and scaUer-brained architect, Alexander Drew, who, to save money on his income tax and to guard against expensive blackmail for breach of promise, marries his young and capable secretary, much to the annoyance of her suitor (Walter Pidgeon). However, it is purely a business arrangement, legally drawn up, and apparently meaning little more than a salary rise for the new (and somewhat disgusted) bride. Though the income-tax collector may be balked, fate may not, and rather emotional instances bring matters to a climax. The incidents and dialogue are so racy and natural that the picture moves with rapidity and ease. Alan Mowbray, Tala Birell, Ernest Cossart, Mary Phillips, and Katherine Alexander are others prominent in the cast. On the same programme is the second of the series of films depicting the Springboks’ tour of New Zealand, this one giving the highlights of last Saturday’s match against Taranaki at New Plymouth
