poukiore meeting At the June meeting ot the Poukiore Women's Institute, held on 16th of the month, Mrs S. McAlley presided over a fair attendance. Che meeting opened with the Ode and Aspirations, after which the president welcomed one new member and two who have recovered from illness. Apologies were received from Mesdames .K. Dalziell, K. Dalziell, F. Powell and Miss Powell. The Scotch sayings roused much amusement, also Miss McLean's reading. Mesdames S. McAlley and Walker gave a musical item. At the July meeting the elderly ladies of the district will be entertained. The winners of this month's guessing competition were Miss McLean and Mrs Walker. For oat cake, Miss McLean J, Mrs S. McAlley 2, Mrs A. McAlley 3; and silk art work, Miss 1. McAlley 1, and Miss E. Dalziell 2 and Roil call next month, tested recipescompetition, fudge and plain gems’ also a "bring-and-buy" stall. The demonstration will be basket-making. MEETING at turakina Mrs. Henderson presided over a failattendance of members at the Turakina Women's Institute on June 17. As the secretary, Mrs. McPike was unavoidably absent Mrs. Glasgow took her place for the day. Several members were absent on account of illness. The meeting opened with (he “Ode" and “Aspirations." After the minutes had been read and correspondence dealt with the financial statement of the dance was read, this showing a good balance. The secretary was instructed to thank those who had donated prizes for the dances and Mr. Henderson, who kindly acted as M.C. and helped in others ways. Mrs. Henderson explained the work of the W.E.A. classes which are being formed by Mr. Goldsbury. A very interesting address on the care of the hair, given by Mrs. Rowe, of Wanganui, was very heartily applauded. The competition for the day, woollen cushions, was won by Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. R. Glasgow being second. The hostesses for July are to be Mesdames Leigh, Major, Goodall and Miss Perry.
