High-priced Colt Develops Splint.
Homer’s yearling brother Homeric, which cost 1800 guineas at the Sydney Easter sales, is already in trouble having developed a splint. However, it is not considered serious and his preparation has not been interrupted to any extent.
A Handsome Trophy. The stake for the Manawatu Hunt Cup. to be run at Awapuni next week, includes a particularly handsome trophy for the owner of the winner. This is in the form of a canteen of cutlery, valued at £4O, of sterling silver, hallmarked Louis XVI. pattern.
Racing Taxation. Taxation in connection with the Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting amounted to £16,341, made up as follows:—Totalisator tax, £7434: dividend tax, £8131; stakes tax. £93 10s; and the amusement tax, £683. The total taxation for the club's four meetings during the season amounted to £58,484, made up as follows: Totalisator tax. £29,906; dividend tax, £26.166; stakes tax, £379; and amusement tax, £2033.
