MODERN EFFICIENCY
EMPLOYEES DESIGN THEIR OWN OFFICES Employees of J. Lyons and Co., Ltd., the well-known caterers, were invited by the directors to help to design a new block of offices at Cadby Hall, the London headquarters of the company. The following are some of the ideas which were put forward and have been incorporated in the new building:—lnterviewing rooms for members of the staff; cloakrooms with special drying apparatus so that if an employee arrives with wet coat and hat the clothes will be dry by lunchtime; a private telephone call office; windows constructed to avoid draughts—the cleaners were consulted to ensure easy cleaning; indirect lighting to prevent eye-strain; thermostatically-controlled heating to maintain an even temperature; rubber and special parquet flooring to prevent undue noise; shelf-backed desks provided for individual filing purposes. The new offices are claimed to be among the most modern in London. Over 1000 employees are being transferred in sections this month, so that work will not be interrupted.
