TO ABOLISH TIPPING

NEW BILL IN FRANCE PARIS, June 6. A Bill to abolish tipping was passed by the Chamber of Deputies by 267 votes to 265, but it is unlikely that the Senate will accept it. Supporters of the Bill urged that the practice was subversive of human dignity and contrary to a just reward for services. Opponents contended that nobody was really ashamed to take a tip, which constituted a regular and dependable source of income. Even if the Bill passed it would have little effect as shown in Italy, where tipping was illegal, but still persisted.
