OHAKEA

GIFT EVENING A large gathering of friends and well-wishers met in the local hall to tender a gift evening to Miss P. Capstick and Mr. G. Frecklington. The evening was spent in cards and dancing, Mr. Feeney supplying the music. After supper had been served Mr. F. O. Bailey, on behalf of the residents of the district, congratulated Mr. Frecklington on his choice of a bride aid said that Miss Capstick, since reaching maturity, has helped in whatever was going on for the good of the district and that her loss would be felt at public functions. Mrs. Robinson, on behalf of the. Women’s Institute, presented Miss Capstick with a handsome brass bowl, and spoke in glowing terms of her work as an institute member. On behalf of the hockey girls Miss Taylor presented Miss Capstick with a picture. The guests of the evening, assisted by their friends, then opened a large assortment of useful and beautiful gifts given to them. The spot waltz was won by Miss M. Taylor and Mr. B. Florence, and the Monte Carlo by Mis F. Palmer and Mr. Des. Ellery. The card winners were Mrs. Matthews and Mr. T. Pedersen, snr. Dancing was carried on until midnight, when the singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a very happy evening to a close. out an overhead long pass to Laden, who was running up fast on the vzing and sprinted about 20 yards to score a well-deserved try.
