ENTRIES DUE FRIDAY REMINDERS TO OWNERS Friday of this week will be a very important day for breeders and owners of thoroughbreds, for on that day nominations will close for all the classic and near-classic events in NewZealand. The occasion is so important that it should not be overlooked. Wanganui Guineas Entries for the Wanganui Guineas of 1938 are to close at 9 p.m. on Friday. The race is run over a mile and is a sweepstake of £5 each for starters, with £4OO added. Manawatu Events Nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club’s 1938 Sires’ Produce Stakes are due to close at 9 p.m. on Friday. The race is for present yearlings by nominated sires. The stake is £4OO, of which the nominator of the sire of the winner receives £4O. At the same time entries of sires for the 1939 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes will close. The nominator of each stallion will pay £3, and any yearlings by that sire will be eligible for nomination for the 1939 race. Wellington Racing Club Nominations for the Wellesley Stakes (1937), Wellington Stakes (1938), and North Island Challenge Stakes (1938) close with Miss D. Bray, secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, at 5 p.m. next Friday. Auckland Racing Club Entries for the Welcome Stakes (1937). Great Northern Foal Stakes (1937-38), Royal Stakes (1937-38), Great Northern Champagne Stakes (1938), Great Northern Guineas (1938), Great Northern Derby (193839), Great Northern Oaks (1930) and the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes (1939), to be run at meetings of the Auckland Racing Club, close with the secretary, Mr W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. next Friday. DUNEDIN MEETING NO FAST WORK AT WINGATUI [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, June 7. The training tracks were unfit for fast work at Wingatui this morning, most of the horses being exercised on the road. Possum jumped four schooling fences at a slow pace. J. Thistleton, P. T. Hogan, S. Barr, and A. S. Ellis arrived with their teams last night.
