I AUCKLAND, June 3. • The final gallops in connection with : 1 he Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie this morning attracted a large | number of spectators. There were • several schooling bouts over hurdles : on the course proper, and five horses I went together over the hill. Some | good efforts were recorded on the flat, , among them being those of Kelly, Kiltowyn, Greek Gold, Valmint, Scotland and Prince Acre. I No. 1 grass was available for fast ■ work, and the weather was perfect, I through the going as a result of recent rain was heavy. The sand track, tan and hurdles in the centre were also in use. Or. Captain Bruce was holding Thurwind at the end of half a mile in 54 1Free Air and Back Block did a round in 2min. 5 4-ssec., Baek Block being in front. Mata Hari completed half a mile in 54 3-ssec. and was running on nicely. The best six furlongs of the morning was put up by Kelly, who registered the first three in 40 l-ssec. He went from almost a standing start, which made the gallop an attractive one. Kiltowyn sprinted half a mile in 52 3-ssec., which was the best of the morning over the distance. Tail Light and Small Boy finished clear of Collision, with Bass further back after covering six furlongs in Imin. 22 3-ssec. Over a similar distance Locknit was in front of Waitaka in Imin. 24 3Black Thread and Pennycomequick | went half a mile in 54 3-ssec. Black Thread covered more ground than his companion. Jewelled Girdle was well clear of Lucidus and Gadger after doing a round in 2min. 4 2-ssee., the last halfmile in 58 4-ssec. Far Land was ahead of Surella, with Ringshot several lengths away after running five furlongs in Imin. 8 2-5 sec., the last three furlongs in 41 2-5 sec. Scotland and Prince Acre were in front of Knight of Australia at the end of six furlongs, run in Imin. 23 2- Scotland went well. King Key Pleases. King Key was well clear of Grand City at the end of a round in 2min. 0 1- King Rey pleased. Over a similar distance Te Hai and Armacourt registered 2min. 0 3-ssec. Adalene beat Aero Queen over five furlongs run in Imin. 7 3-ssec. Huskie was in front of Erination at the finish of a round, the last halfmile taking 59sec. Valmint again pleased over seven furlongs, in which he finished clear of Crooning in Imin. 35 4-ssec. Greek Gold was going better than De Friend over six furlongs run in Imin. 21 4-ssec., the first three in 40 2- Greek Gold shaped well. Whirling was holding Light Comedy safely in a six furlongs’ spin, which occupied Imin. 24 l-ssec. Whirling was running on solidly. Master Musk, Killadar and Tout le Monde finished in that order after traversing a round in 2min. 2sec. Jolly Beggar and Lord Vai were clear of Sky Pilot after registering 2min. 3 l-ssec. for a round, the final half-mile in 57 l-ssec. Lord Vai gave the other pair several lengths' start, and was right up with Jolly Beggar at the end, though the latter worked well. High Star (Mcßae), Keith Lu (A. Gilmer), Huntsman’s Chorus (Baker), and La Femme Noire iR. Smith) finished in that order over four hurdles in Imin. 25 3-ssec. Steeplechase Course. London (J. Day), Thespis (T. Williams), Booklaw (Watson), Tea Chat (Turvey), and Right Royal (Cotter) were associated in a school over a round of thjr steeplechase course. They got through their task safely with the exception of Right Royal, who baulked at the stone wall at the bottom of the hill. London led throughout, and gave a first-class display. Thespis also fenced well except for hitting the last obstacle, a stone wall. Booklaw ran round the second fence of the double the first time, but jumped the other obstacles all right. Prince of Orange schooled satisfactorily over four hurdles. Pango and Forest Glow went a round in 2min. 6sec- Both were going well at the end. Billy Boy beat Erase in a gallop. All Irish covered a round in 2min, 3 4- A useful effort. Hurdlers’ Displays. Royal Limond (Beale), Tangled (McDowell), and Pahu (Ridgway) ! gave a sound display over four hurdles I on the course proper. The trio jumped I well.
