TEAR GAS AND BATONS STATE TROOPERS ACTIVE TROUBLE IN NEW JERSEY (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received June 3, 10.40 p.m. NEW YORK, June 3. State troopers were summoned as the result of rioting in which the police were forced to use batons and tear gas to rout a thousand strikers who were attempting to close a laundry plant. More than a score were hurt, including several women, but none critically. A dozen motor-cars were damaged and the plant windows smashed. The strike is fostered by the Committee for Industrial Organisation. PLANES INEFFECTIVE EFFORTS TO FEED BESIEGED STEEL WORKS STRIKE P.eceived June 3, 8.40 p.m. YOUNGSTOWN, June 3. After two Republic Steel Corporation aeroplanes had crashed without the occupants being injured, the Corporation announced that it would discontinue the use of 'planes to drop food to the strike-besieged plant. It is alleged that a sniper's bullet severed a strut over the head of one pilot. The sheriff and his deputies are hunting for snipers in the underbrush.
Strikers surrounding the plant refused to permit food to be sent to those working. Therefore, the Corporation used ’planes.
