The carnival spirit prevailed at the eter an on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance of enthusiastic dancers for the “When You’re in Love” dance. The scheme of lighting added to the attraction of the decorations. There were several novelty dances which were very popular. There were several entries for the best impersonation of the film star, Miss Grace Moore, the winner of the guinea prize being Miss Shirley Mills, which wore a long black evening frock and large picture hat with drooping feather. During the evening Miss Mills sang "One Night of Love.” A tap dance given by Sweetie Griffen was well applauded and she responded with another charming item. The first Monte Carlo was won by Miss M. Feltham and Mr. T. Thompson, and the second Monte Carlo winners were Miss M. Douthwaite and Mr. A. Couchman. The “Majestic” Monte Carlo resulted in Miss June McGrail and Mr. Ted Peters being first, and Miss Dillon and Mr. F. Williams second. Music was provided by the Soprani Serenaders and Piano-Accor-dion Band. Mr. T. Gowan capably carried out the duties of M.C.
A Helpful Prayer. One usually sees helpful mottoes and verses hanging on the walls of homes or offices, but one woman—a member of the W.D.F.U. whose duty it is to attend various meetings in connection with the movement, has adopted the unique idea of carrying around with her a copy of a prayer which is hung in a private room of his late Majesty King George V, at Sandringham. When discussions are in progress, and arguments arise, this member glances through the lines of the prayer which she finds most helpful. The prayer is as follows: “Teach me to observe the rules of the game. Teach me neither to cry for the moon nor for spilt milk. Help me to distinguish between sentiment and sentimentality, cleaving to the one and despising the other. Help me neither to proffer nor to receive cheap praise. If I am called upon to suffer, let me be like a well-bred beast who goes away and suffers in silence. Teach me to win when I may, and if I may not win then above all I pray make me a good loser.” parted, the bride was wearing an ensemble of twilight blue wool boucle, the high-necked frock having seifcovered buttons down the front of the bodice and the revers of the coat being edged with grey broadtail fur. Her skull cap was of felt of the same colour and had small self-flowers
