WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Sunday, May 30, 4 p.m. General Situation.—Pressure is high from Central Australia across the North Tasman Sea to northern New Zealand and also to the eastward, while a series of shallow westerly depressions extends from Southern Australia across the South Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Variable in the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong and rather squally, northwesterlies reaching gale force in some exposed positions but backing in places temporarily to west or south-west. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas and rather rough at timer on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds light to moderate and variable and seas slight to moderate in the northern portion, moderate to strong north-east to westerly winds and rather rough seas in the southern portion. Weather.—For the most part fair to fine in eastern and northern districts with rain at times in districts with a westerly aspect from Kawhia southwards and at scattered places in Otago and Southland. Temperatures moderate to mild. Phases of the Moon for May. —Third quarter, May 4; new moon, May 11; first quarter, May 17; full moon. May 25.
