CYRIL TOWERS’ BOOT

With the Australian Interstate Rugby Union programme completed, the stage is now set, though somewhat indecisively, for the matches against South Africa in Australia. The curtain was rung down at North Sydney Oval on May 15, on the final inter-State match between N.S.W. and Queensland. By its 14—11 success New South Wales won the rubber, the tallies being N.S.W. 2 games and Queensland one game. The other match was drawn. A more satisfying conclusion would have been honours even, for Queensland scored three tries to one. It was Cyril Towers who booted N.S.W. to victory, toppling, meanwhile, the record points score for N.S.W., formerly held by Stan Wickham.
