Mr. W. A. Izard was elected a member of the executive at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce in place of Mr. J. Goldstone, who tendered his resignation. Mr. I-I. Benson, of Wanganui, was the winner of the points prize in the amateur section at the Palmerston North Horticultural Society’s chrysanthemum show on Saturday. He gained G2 points. Mr. E. S. Locke, of London Street, leaves Wanganui to-morrow morning for Wellington, whore he will connect with the Rangitane, sailing on Thursday lor London. Mr. Locke will make a holiday tour of Great Britain, Ireland and the Continent. Mr. A. J. Parris, who for the last three years, has been head of the stock department of the local branch of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., is leaving Wanganui in about a fortnights time, to take charge of the company’s business a! Timaru. Mr S. Gilkison, formerly honorary pilot-instructor to the Southland Aero Club, who has been appointed as an additional pilot-instructor to the Western Federated (N. 1. Flying Club, arrived in Wanganui on Friday evening. Mr Gilkison left for New Plymouth yesterday morning and is expected to arrive back in Wanganui next Saturday. Mr. Peter Butler, of the Wellington City Council, who was chairman of the recent commission appointed by • the Government to inquire into the conduct of the taxicab business in New Zealand, is to visit the Wanganui district this week, addressing meetings on matters of importance to trade unions. He will stay at the New Criterion Hotel to-night and will address a meeting in Wanganui to-mor-row night. The Mrs. Fulton who was missing from the inter-island ferry steamer Rangatira when she berthed at Wellington on Sunday morning was the wife of Mr. N. D. Fulton, of Wanganui, chief Government Dairy Produce Grader. A motion of sympathy with Mr. Fulton in his loss was passed at yesterday’s luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club on the motion of the president, Rotarian F. H. Bethwaite. The late Mrs. Fulton had been suffering from ill-health for some time. Mr. W. S. Jones, who has been chairman of the Wanganui Intermediate School Committee since its inception, and is retiring from office, was accorded a vote of thanks for his services by the annual meeting of parents last night. Mr. A. G. Macfarland, speaking as a parent, paid tribute to Mr. Jones’ interest and energy in regard to the school. This was endorsed by Mrs. Comrie, who had been associated with Mr. Jones in school work in connection with Queen’s Park. The chairman of the meeting (Mr. D. McClymont) added his tribute. Mr. Jonas, in reply, said that he had always taken an interest in the school and would continue to do so.
