HAWKE’S BAY GALLERY AND MUSEUM

SECOND PORTION OPENED. (Per Press Association). NAPIER, April 29. The second portion of the Hawke’s Bay Art Society’s new art gallery and museum, which is being erected in three sections, was officially opened byDr. Oliver, a director of the Dominion Museum, to-night. The society previously raised £2600 required for the first section, and £2OOO for the latest portion was furnished by the Carnegie Corporation. Although the building was only commenced in 1935 it already contains many valuable exhibits, including collections donated by Lady McLean and the late Mr. Greacen Black, of Gisborne, in addition to a Carnegie Art Library valued at £1250.

An amount of £5OOO is required to complete the building;
