STRAITS SETTLEMENTS’ GIFT A FURTHER SUM OF £58,000. [ British Official Wireless. J Received April 29, 6.37 p.m. RUGBY, April 28fl. The Governor of the Straits Settlements has reported to the Colonial Secretary that the Legislative Council unanimously adopted on Monday a motion for a gift of approximately £58,000 as contribution towards cost of Empire defence. The Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Rt. Hon. W. OrmsbyGore, in informing the House of Commons, expressed the Government’s appreciation of this further generous gift from the Colony.
