WOOL AT DUNEDIN Keen Demand For Crossbred 3d UP ON LAST SALE ALL-ROUND IMPROVEMENT [ Per Preus Association. 7 DUNEDIN, March 23. The third wool sale for the season was held to-day, when approximately 30,700 bales were offered. The wool opened up in excellent condition, crossbreds particularly, which comprised about half of the offering, being the best show seen in Dunedin for some seasons. In sympathy with recent sales in other centres the demand was well distributed amongst all sections of the trade. Bradford, the Continent, America and Japan competing freely, whilst the local mills gave good support on the comparatively few lots of super fine halfhreds and Merinos suitable to their requirements.

All grades of wool showed a further Arming tendency and the sale to-day was easily the best sale held in the Dominion this season. Compared with the last Dunedin sale, crossbreds showed a sensational rise which, on the average, must be fully 2d to 3d per lb, and prices were the highest seen for many years. Numerous lines of medium Romney wools sold in the vicinity of t9d with finer quality from 20d to 2 Id. whilst crossbred hogget wool of medium quality in certain cases sold to 23d. Fine wools were eagerly competed for, chiefly by the Continent, and whilst prices for halfbreds were very satisfactory, the same advance as for crossbreds was not obtained and the market may be quoted Id higher than the last Dunedin sale. For these wools the local mills were keen buyers for super halfbreds and the top price for the sal- was 264<1. Merino sold to 24 id. The Continent, particularly France, was very strong on pieces and bellies and these also showed a substantial advance on the last sale. Several lots of halfbred necks sold to 2d and some extreme prices W'ere paid for fine crossbred necks and pieces. Needless to say, passings at to-days prices were few- and far between and almost a complete clearance was made at auction. Following is the official range of prices:— d. d.
