EARLY NEW ZEALAND
OLD WESLEYAN RECORDS ON LOAN [ Per Pre-s Association. ] WELLINGTON, March 23. Documents of first importance to the records of early New Zealand colonisation, particularly from 1819 to 1855, have been obtained on loan for two years from the archives of the Wesleyan Church, London, by Rev. Rugby Pratt, of Christchurch. They throw new light on various episodes in the colony's history from the coming of the first missionaries until the beginnings of self-government, and have much to tell of the early relationships between the wljites and the Maoris. No historian has hitherto made a thorough examination of these documents, which the Internal Affairs Department and the Turnbull Library authorities consider the most important acquisition for 20 years.
