HITHER AND THITHER

Forthcoming Garden Party Friday, April 2, is the date chosen for the combined Church of England and Presbyterian garden party to be held at “Leetham,” the residence of Mrs C. G. Ross. Buses will leave Martin and Vernon’s, Taupo Quay, at 2 p.m. Other particulars will be found on page one. A Presentation

A pleasing little ceremony took place at the “Chronicle” yesterday afternoon when Miss I. McNiven, who after eight years as a member of the commercial staff has left to take up another appointment, was the recipient of a solid leather travelling bag and initialled gold Sheaffer’s pencil. The manager, Mr L. C. Young, in making the presentation on behalf of the management and staff, said he regretted her departure but was pleased that she had gained a higher position. Miss McNiven. in reply, thanked all for their lovely gifts and referred to the happy years she had spent as a member of the staff. Individual good wishes were expressed and all joined in singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Successful Garden Party

A garden party arranged by the Wanganui and Suburban Horticultural Society, was held on Saturday in the beautiful and well-laid out grounds of Mrs C. G. Ross’ home, “Leetham,” which she had generously lent for the occasion. The beautiful flowers bordering the long drive were greatly admired, as also were the arbors covered with wisteria and flowering creepers, beds of delphiniums, zinnias, roses and other lovely and gay-coloured flowers, including a rockery of golden gleam nasturtiums. The weather was ideal and everyone spent a happy afternoon with games and competitions. The president, Mr Christie, thanked Mrs Ross for her kindness and all those who had helped to make the first party of the new society a success.
