“ASSOCIATION OF INTEREST” CO-ORDINATION, BUT NOT A MERGER. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received March 10, 11.55 p.m. SYDNEY, March 10. It is announced that Quantas Empire Airways Limited and Airlines of Australia and the Australian National Airways have completed an agree- • ment “for co-ordination of all major air services in the Commonwealth.” The spokesman for one company states that the basis of the agreement is “an association of interests” but no merger. A Canberra message says that the minister of Defence (Sir Robert Parkhill), referring to the foregoing announcement, said that the Commonwealth Government was opposed to anything in the way of monopolies on the part of commercial aviation. The Government considered that free competition was the best for all concerned.
