GIFT EVENING | Miss P. Reilly and Mr. D. Wood, who are shortly to be married, were given a kitchen tea evening on Saturday. The popularity of this young couple, both of whom have lived all their life in this district, was evinced by the large gathering present and also by the big assortment of household gifts of which they were the recipients. Mr. F. H. Thompson, at a suitable juncture, called upon the guests of the evening to accept the gifts, which, he said, were accompanied by every good wish for their future happiness. Continuing, Mr. Thompson spoke of the popularity of both Miss Reilly and Mr. Wood and of how they had worked for various causes in the district. In conclusion Mr. Thompson expressed pleasure that the district was not to lose the guests of honour after their wedding. After the singing of “For They’re Jolly Good Fellows," Mr. Wood suitably responded. The evening's programme took the form of a dance, music being supplied by Mrs. F. H. Thompson and Messrs. S. Moess, J. Carr and F. Thompson. Mr. E. Pearson was M.C. A very enjoyable evening concluded at midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” GENERAL NEWS The Ruahine School held its annua! picnic in the school grounds on Saturday. A variety of races and toys for the tiny tots provided entertainment for young and old. Playing at Kimbolton on Saturday the local tennis team continued its successful way by once more defeating that team. A sale of harvest festival goods and a variety of other goods was held on Tuesday afternoon in aid of funds for the Methodist Church. Bran tubs, competitions and ice cream all proved very popular and the funds of the church will be considerably augmented as a result. Miss M. Harris, Marlon, is slaying with Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Harris. Mrs. H. Haycock, Waverley, is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Carey. Miss M. Mackintosh, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. Moess, left on Wednesday evening for Te Awamutu.
