TROTTING

ABOUT RED FLUSH NELSON SUCCESSES WANGANUI ENGAGEMENTS Red Flush came through his Nelson engagements with great credit, and stood head and shoulders above the other two-milers, of whom Reno will be the only one to oppose him again in the Wanganui Handicap next Saturday, writes “Ribbonwood” in the Evening Post. Red Flush won the Nelson Cun from Ideal and Loretta in 4min. 32 3-ssec., and from 36yds. In the President’s Handicap on the second day he made even easier work of it in defeating Loretta and Reno in 4min. 27 4-ssec., a record for the track and horses of the class. He appears to have the edge on the majority of his Wanganui opponents. Nothing on the limit of the Wanganui Cup can stand ud to Red Flush’s form on past deeds. Reno. Levity, and Frank Best may be the best of these. Reno broke 4min. 32sec. at Nelson. Frank Best, who took some time to develop solidness, has won his races at the right end, and is expected to stay reasonably well. Levity on occasion'; has won like a really good horse. He won a double at the last Waikato meeting, and his next success was in the Summer Handicap at Cambridge. By Rey de Oro —Escapade. Levity Is bred to stay, and on a dry track should go a sound two miles. Meadow King and Bonnie Direct make lit Up appeal, but Kenworthy is one of the best of his class in Auckland. and his form up, to a mile and a-half has suggested staying ability of no mean order. Full Hand is a Canterbury candidate who has beer better over shorter distances to date Imnoster is not without prosnects Red Flush is definitely the form horse, and next to him the Levity— Frank Best bracket and Kenworthy may appeal. WANGANUI MEETING “TOTE” INNOVATION ACCEPTANCES TO-NIGHT Patrons of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meetings, to be held on Ma r cn 13 and 20, will be provided with an innovation in the operation of the totalisator. Tfce single-poo! system will be used, and as there will not oe a dividend indicator the committee has arranged that one of the spaces on the face of the totalisator will furnish patrons with the net amount to be divided among backers of the winner. Thus investors will be enable to divide into this total the number of tickets on the horse they fancy if they wish to ascertain the approximate dividend for a win. The net total is arrived at by the deducting from the total registered the State taxation percentages and the amount to be set aside for backers of the second horse. For taxation purposes approximately 17i per cent, is deducted, and from the resultant total 25 per cent. is reserved for backers of the second horse. Thus if 1000 tickets are registered as the totalisator turnover for a race 175 are taken off for taxation purposes and 206 for the second horse, leaving 619 for backers of the winner. This is a little more than three-fifths of the total investments. If the amount invested on the winner is 200 tickets backers would get a dividend of a little over £3 Is. With only 61 tickets taken on the winner the dividend would be £lO. It is felt that the service provided by the innovation wil be appreciated by patrons, who should readily adapt themselves to the practice of working out an approximate dividend with ease. As the electric totalisator will be operated, investments will be registered as they are being made. The display in Messrs London ana Udy’s shop window of trophies to be won at the Wanganui meetings nas attracted considerable attention, warm commendation of the club’s enterprise being voiced. Acceptances for all first-day events are due to close with the secretary, Mr C. S. Swan, at 9 o’clock to-night. REHANDICAP DECLARED The secretary of the Wanganui Trotting Club has received advice from the club’s handicapper, Mr. A. Tronson, that Queenie Direct has been rehandicapped to the 60yd mark in the Innovation Handicap and to the 48yd mark in the Autumn Handicap.
