DECLINE OF BRITISH RACING
With the drop of 28 from the number it attracted last spring, the entry of 52 for the Lincolnshire Handicap, to be run next March, emphasises the decline in British horse-racing. The glamour of a race meeting is lost when the big race declines. The falling off in this particular race is due to some extent to a horse being killed last spring, and two jockeys severely injured. Then again, the grand old “tradition” that has served Britain In many an emergency has lost its pulling power. The public are not content to stand in the open and be drenched to the skin.
Middleweight Bout. The middleweight boxing champion Steele has signed a contract to defend his title against Risko in a match at Madison Square Garden on February 19.
