SETTLEMENT REACHED
CLAIM FOR DAMAGES SEQUEL TO MOTOR SMASH [ Per Tresi Association. ] WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. Before the evidence for the defendant was completed, a settlement was announced in the Supreme Court of the case in which Muriel Jessie Bollard claimed from James Healy, civil servant, £1750 damages for injuries received when the cars in which plaintiff and defendant were driving came into collision near Paraparaumu on October 23. Upon the application of Mr. Mazengarb for plaintiff, and with the consent of Mr. Stephenson, who appeared with Mr. O’Leary, K.C., for defendant, Mr. Justice Smith entered judgment for plaintiff for £624 6s 4d, £450 being general damages and £174 6s 4d the amount of special damages claimed. Mr. Mazengarb said that defendant had acted the part of a gentleman at the scene of the accident and through his solicitors he now agreed on the settlement which, in view of the splendid recovery plaintiff had made she was willing to accept.
