VALEDICTORY A very pleasant evening was spent in the Town Hall when a social and dance was given in honour of Mr and Mrs A. A. Signal by their many friends. During the evening, opportunity was taken by Mr Jack Currie to make a presentation to the young couple of a beautiful dinner set and dinner wagon. In wishing Mr and Mrs Signal all happiness in their future life, he mentioned that they both had taken a prominent place in all social and sporting activities in the district. Musical hoi: ours were accorded them. Mr Signal suitably replied. Mrs Signal looked charming in a black georgette frock. Miss Zena Bishop was the winner of the ladies’ musical arms and Mr Pritchard winner of the men’s. A straw and paper competition was won by: Ladies, Miss Verita Buttler 1, Mrs Berry 2; men, Nelson Butler 1, E. Ingram 2. Items were: Accordion solo by Mr E. Ingram, trio by Mrs Anderson (piano), Mrs Berry (accordion) and Mr Berry (violin). TENNIS MATCH On Saturday a tennis match was played by teams from Sanson and Kairanga, on the Kairanga courts, under ideal weather conditions. Although Kairanga was victorious a very enjoyable afternoon was spent by everyone. The following are the results, Kairanga players being mentioned first:— Ladies’ Singles.—Miss T. Davey lost to Miss G. Sanson, 3-6; Miss G. Ranson won from Miss N. Desmond, 6-2; Miss Dorreen lost to Miss L. Lumsden 1-6; Miss Eglinton won from Miss Desmond, 6-4: Mrs R. Mitchell won from Miss L. Gedye, 6-4; Miss F. Eglinton won from Miss G. Adams, 6-2. Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Davey and Ransom lost to Misses G. Sanson and Lumsden, 1-6; Misses Dorreen and Newman won from Misses Desmond and L. Lumsden, 6-1; Mrs Mitchell and Miss Eglinton won from Misses L. Gedye and G. Adams, 6-4. Men’s Singles.—l. Davey won from S. L. Orr, 6-2; L. Clark won from R. Lumsden, 6-2; K. Mildon won from P. Gedye, 6-1; G. Davey won from J. Hepburn, 6-1; W. Harrison won from R. Meyer. 6-1; R. Mitchell won from Rev. Fordyce, 6-0. Men’s Doubles.—l. Davey and L. Clarke won from S. L. Orr and R. Lumsden, 6-5; A. Davey and K. Mildon won from P. Gedye and R. Hepburn, 6-1; W. Harrison and R. Mitchell won from R. Meyer and Rev. Fordyce. 6-3. Mixed Doubles.—Miss Davey and I. Davey won from Miss Sanson and S. L. Orr, 6-2; Miss Ransom and L. Clarke won from Miss Desmond and R. Lumsden, 6-0; Miss Dorreen and K. Mildon won from Miss L. Lumsden and P. Gedye, 6-2; Miss Newman and G. Davey won from Miss Lumsden and J. Hepburn, 6-2; Mrs Mitchell and D. Harrison won from Miss L. Gedye and R. Meyer, 6-3; Miss Eglinton and R. Mitchell won from Miss G. Adams and Rev. Fordyce, 6-2. Kairanga, 131 games,* 21 sets; Sanson, 61 games, 3 sets. PERSONAL Mrs Fred Anderson, from Auckland, is staying with Mrs W. Pearce.
