GERMANY’S COLONIES
“GIVE BACK THE BOOTY!” AN IMPASSIONED PLEA (By Telegraph—Prese Association—Copyright) BERLIN, Feb. 10. An impassioned plea to Germans to join the Colonial League was broadcast from Munich. “Letters from Togoland, Camerons, and the South Sea Islands complain about the mandatory powers and demand the return to Germany of our colonies which were stolen from us. There is only one solution—give back the booty. Germany’s cry for colonies must echo throughout the world.” BERLIN PEACE PLAN COMMONS QUESTIONS BRITISH HOPES FOR NEGOTIATIONS [ British Official Wireless. J RUGBY, Feb. 10. Asked in the House of Commons whether the German proposals for a European settlement of March 31 last had been withdrawn or in any way modified, Lord Cranborne, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, said that so far as he was aware there had been no specific withdrawal of the German Chancellor on that date, but members would have taken note of the subsequent statement of policy made ‘on behalf of the German Government. A Labour member put a supplementary question suggesting that the German Government had refused to participate in negotiations for a settlement of European problems, although their own peace plan had advocated the opening of actual negotiations. Lord Cranborne replied: “It would not be true to say they have refused. There has been considerable delay, but we still hope negotiations will take place.”
