“RHYTHM ON THE RANGE” Bing Crosby, Bob Burns, a blooded bull, a box car and a crazy crosscountry pilgrimage; hot “swing” tunes and songs of the old West; Frances Farmer, Martha Raye and her clock-stopping face; a rodeo, songs, gags, and songs. Those are a few of the ingredients of Paramount’s “Rhythm on the Range,” a romantic and hilarious musical now being j screened at the Plaza Theatre, ilt launches six song hits, all of them ■most popular: “I Can’t Escape From You,” “The House That Jack Built iFor Jill,” "If You Can’t Sing it You’ll | Have to Swing it,” “Empty Saddles,” l “Roundup Lullaby,” and “I’m an Old .Cow Hand From lhe Rio Grande.” I “Rhythm on the Range,” a seventh hit, was inspired by the picture. On the same programme is “A Son Comes Home,” with Mary Boland starred. “Champagne Waltz.” The glorious voice of Gladys Swarthout will be heard again from the screen with the opening of “Champagne Waltz” at the Plaza Theatre to-morrow. Fred MacMur- ' ray, the increasingly popular leading ■ man, plays oposite Miss Swarthout. • Comedy runs through the whole piece, ! delivered by Jack Oakie. Other features of this magnificent production are two famous orchestras and the lavish spectacle of its musical settings. A sceen which should earn the praise of all patrons is that which presents a ballroom scene of 1300 people waltzing to the “Blue Danlube.” A climax is reached with the presentation by no fewer than 400 [musicians of the “Blue Danube” and I the modern jazz number “Hold That I I Tiger. Ann Ronnell, ace of Amer(ica’s feminine song writers, wrote 'the “Merry-Go-Round Waltz” which ' the dance team of Veloz and Lolanda > will present for the first time in , “Champagne Waltz.” To its quaint, catchy strains the dancers execute the motions of a merry-go-round.
