REGENT THEATRE

I "THE GARDEN OF ALLAH” Lovers of the really good film will agree that "The Garden of Allah," beautiful technicolour production, neading the current programme at the Regent Theatre, is a picture that should not be missed on any account. The story is a well- ; known one, having been adapted from i Robert Hitchens’ novel of the same ' name. Chosen for her beauty in the I new medium is Marlene Dietrich, who for sheer radiance of presence has , never appeared to such advantage in any picture. She enacts the role of Domini Emlilden, who, seeking peace, goes to the desert and finds herself face to face with mysterious and handsome Boris Androvsky, played by Charles Boyer. In the "Garden of Allah” they finally declare their love and marry. Later a French officer and a handful of men, lost in the desert, come upon their encampment. Something strange occurs between Boris and the officer, who leaves immediately. Finally the tragic truth concerning Boris is revealed to Domini. They separate, Domini returns to live in the "Garden of Allah,” where she has experienced the happiest moments of her life. The producers of the film insisted that it was made not for the sake of colour, but with colour, because the famous story could not be done justice in any other way. and has incidentally become the first really great all-colour picture. In the cast are Basil Rathbone. C. Aubrey Smith and Tilly Losch.
