Baron and Baroness De TurylJ, Sydney, are visitors to the city, and are guests at the Grand Hotel.
Mr M. J. Reardon (Conciliation Commissioner) left Wellington o.i Saturday for Nelson. He is to return about February 12.
The Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotea-roa, who has been visiting Auckland, left for Rotorua on Friday afternoon.
Professor P. W. Burbidge, Professor of Physics at the Auckland Univers ty College, left for Australia by the Wanganella on Friday. He will attend the universities conference at Adelaide early in March.
Mr C. S. Plank, M.Sc., of the staff of the chief engineer, Post and Telegraph Department, has been transferred on promotion to the position of engineer in charge of the Palmerston North district.
Sir John Davidson, a director ot Dalgety and Company, Limited, and chairman of directors of the Union Bank of Autsralia, will arrive at Wellington from Australia to-day, and leave on February 10 for the South Island. He is due at Auckland on March 4 and will sail for Sydney by the Wanganella the following day. He is accompanied by his wife and daughter.
Hon. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C., left Auckland by the Wanganella on Friday for Sydney, en route to Japan, America and England. He was accompanied by Mrs Davis and will be away for about six months. Mr Davis will visit his mother, Mrs Moss Davis, in London, where she has resided since leaving Auckland many years ago. Mr Davis is Consul for Japan in Auckland, and while in that country will interest himself in reciprocal trade matters.
Mr. F. Gaze, headmaster of the Castlecliff School, has been appointed to the position of headmaster at Manchester Street, Feilding. j.t a meeting of the Castlecliff committee the chairman, Captain Melville, referred in very eulogistic terms to the work Mr. Gaze had accomplished during his term at Castlecliff. The senool was losing a head teacher who would be hard to replace, Captain Melville added. The committee decided to place on record its appreciation of Mr. Gaze’s work and to write him expressing regret at his departure and wishing him well in his new sphere.
