RANGITIKEI CRICKET

OLD BOYS WIN EASILY MARTON AGAIN DRAWN The resumption of the cricket competitions on Saturday saw Old Boys trounce Hunterville, while the leaders secured another draw with Porewa. With the exception of Hunterville, the scoring was high. Batting honours rested with P. L. Marshall (Porewa), 60; I. Jolly (Old Boys), 57; F. Fisher (Hunterville), 50; S. A. McIndoe (Marton), 48. The scoring in the Marton-Porewa game was painfully slow, while in the other game it was the opposite and spectators were treated with bright displays. OLD BOYS-HUNTERVTLLE MATCH Having first use of a good wicket, Hunterville failed to shape at all con- , fidently and were all out for a moderate score of 105. Fisher was the only one who really collared the bowling and was unbeaten for 50. His score included seven fours. Support also came from Baker (18), Towers (17), and Powell (14). In all there were five “ducks” registered. The most successful bowlers were K. Kerr (five for 38) and I. Jolly (three for 33). J. Marshall and M. Wysocki opened the Old Boys’ innings and produced 46 runs for the first wicket. Jolly and Wysocki continued in breezy style but when at 78, Jolly lost Wysocki for 41. Jolly continued to swing the bat and he and Harvey passed the Hunterville total with eight wickets in hand. Jolly was eventually caught at 57, his score including eight fours and one six. The remainder’ of the team went for a hit and declared their innings closed with 200 on the board for nine wickets. The Hunterville team batted for half an hour before stumps for practice. Marton, thanks to a useful “tail.” produced a good score of 168 in their match against Porewa. Wickets fell early, three being down for 11, but by very slow scoring and a natient innings bv Birch (22), Cnrballis (21). and Mclndoe (48), the score began to mount and, with the heln of the tailenders, the last wicket fell for 168. S. A. Mclndoe played his best knock of the season to top score for his side. Bowling honours were shared by Marshall (four for 43) and Parkinson (five for 58). Parkinson ad A. Marshall opened Ihe Porewa innings at 4.45 p.m., but Marshall, who has been a consistent run-getter this season, failed to get going and was out for 10. V. Smith did not stav long, but then P. Marshall and Parkinson became associated in a valuable partnership of 74 runs. Marshall used the long handle to advantage. Parkinson went at 102, but Marshall continued until he had the misfortune to be run out for 60. His score included eight fours and two sixes. Thereafter Porewa were scratching for runs and when time was up, eight wickets had fallen for 136. Scores Marton First Innings G. Birch, b Parkinson 22 R. Shield, cV. Smith, b Marshall 2 L.
