SHOOTING OF OFFICER
INFORMATION AGAINST TWO MEN Detectives liad informations at the city watchouse, Melbourne, a fewdays ago, against two men who will be charged in the City Police Court with having, at Royal Park, on May 22, 1936, wounded Superintendent John*O’Connell Brophy, Chief Officer of the Criminal Investigation Branch, with intent to murder. According to evidence given before a Royal Commission last year Superintendent Brophy went In a car to Royal Park to meet a police informer. While he was sitting in the car with the lights out, two masked men appeared near the car. Shots were exchanged, and Superintendent Brophy was wounded in the arm, chest, and neck. He was taken Io hospital, and resumed duty a few weeks later.
