GO TO THE BEACH!

AND RETURN MORE BEAUTIFUL Do you ever come home from your holiday, gaze regretfully in your mirror, and wish you hadn't gone? In the novel surroundings of your mirror at the seaside you may not have noticed that your skin is gradually darkening and freckling. But your home mirror, which is wont to reflect whiteness and smoothness of skin, will show you a sight which may horrify you, states a beauty expert. The pity is that it is all so unnecessary. You can give your skin a holiday, too, at the seaside, and come home looking fresh and unblemished, having lost that jaded look which comes from late nights and dull mornings. If you wear a backless bathing costume your back is important. Scrub it hard in your bath with a loofah and a good antiseptic soap to remove distressing blemishes and spots. AU in a Box. Pack all your beauty preparations in a neat box. One preparation will suggest another and you will not neglect your hands when treating your face. lou will need a bottle of complexion milk, or cieasing cream, a good skin food or nourishing cream, a skin tonic and a mild astringent lotion to firm up the muscles, close the pores and generally stimulate the circulation. You will also need a special bottle of oil for sun-bathing. Use this and you can sun-bathe without any blistering. Other necessities are a pot of vanishing sunburn cream, a lipstick, preferably with an orange tint. Don't forget your powder, a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of setting lotion. Beware of sea water on your face. Massage some of the sun-bathing oil on your face before braving the waves. Pat very gently under the eyes, upwards across your cheeks, gently up and down and across your forehead. This will banish any wrinkles which dare to think thy're coming. Don't forget your neck, either. After the bathe, remove the oil with complexion milk, apply the vanishing cream and put on a shady hat—unless you’re going to sun-bathe again, when you will apply a fresh supply of oil. Two Bathing Costumes. Of course you will take two bathing costumes —one to bathe in and one to sun-bathe in. Take a large handkerchief to protect your hair from the water. It will also protect

t irom that ‘ rubbenness and puling which come from confining it in 1 cap. Sprinkle the handkerchief with oil, having set your hair. It will nelp to keep the water out. If you ion your bathing cap over all this, /ou may be reasonably sure of keepng your coiffure in perfect oruer. Your complexion will need preparation before it braves the trials of the day. Cleanse it first thing in the morning with cream. Go through /our usual routine of removing the cream and closing the pores with a splash of cold water and some astringent lotion. A little make-up—you will find that very little will suince after the first few days of sunshine—then judicious powdering. Don your beach dress or your slacks and shirt. I would like to advise everyone against pyjamas now. Slim tailored styles are “in’ for beach wear. Now is the time to be in the open air as much as possible. But be careful not to overdo anything—exercise, sun-bathing, sea-bathing, and so on. However, an hour’s brisK walk is essential every day. It is also essential for everyone to take at least 30 minutes’ complete rest, lying down after every mid-day meal. It is good for the whole system. Go without a hat when you are walking. You can repair the damage to your waves before dinner with the setting lotion. If you follow these rules you will acquire a smooth slight tan which will excite your friends’ admiration rather than their pity. You will feel well from inside, and the resultant. glow will be far more enchanting than your most subtle and alluring make-up.
