Dorothy Roberts, aged 19, of Te Hoe, Morrinsville, is in the Auckland hospital in a serious condition as the result of a fall from a car on Saturday afternoon when the door of the car opened while the vehicle was travelling near Drury. She suffered serious head injuries and was attended by a doctor at Papakura, who ordered her to hospital. MOUNTAIN TRAGEDY COMMENT BY CORONER [ Per Press Association. 1 ASHBURTON, Dec. 28. In returning a verdict that Samuel Delebere Barker, 21, was accidentally drowned crossing the River Clyde in the Rangitata Gorge on Christmas Day, the coroner, Mr. Bathurst, said that in his opinion ropes should be used in a proper manner in crossing mountain streams and mountaineering clubs should adopt regulations compelling members to take such safety measures, and if possible a safety device be fitted to enable the pack to be discarded quickly. An intensive search of the coast from Ocean Beach to Green Hills has been carried out by the Bluff police and local residents in an endeavour to find William Middlemiss of Pyramid, Gore, aged 55 years, who has been missing for several days. About four o’clock on Monday afternoon, December 21, he visited the Ocean Beach freezing works and was seen later walking through the works paddock towards the beach. A bottle contining a note was found and a note supposedly written by the missing man stated that he was going to sea on a raft. Up to the present no trace of Middlemiss has been found.
