CLERICAL AWARD
HOURS AND WAGES [ Ter Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Dec. 24. Awards have been made by the Arbitration Court for the first time as affecting clerical workers. There are two branches of the award, one being general and the other for manufacturers. The award is for the Wellington district. Hours on the whole have been fixed according to the house, but there are special cases, as for instance the fixing of 40 hours for newspaper offices. The wage scales are the same for both and range from 15s to an eventual £5 ss, and females under 17, 15s to an eventual wage of £2 15s. Anyone over 21 years of age must receive at least the basic wage. The scale provides for later age commencing as follows: — Males: First half year, over 16, £1; 17 years, 255; 18 years, 32s 6d; 19 years, £2; 20 years, 555. Females: 17 years, 18s; 18 years, 21s; 19 years, I 245; 20 years, 275. The wages rise I at half-yearly or yearly stages to an i eventual wage of £5 5s for males and | £2 15s for females.
