ABOUT TO BE MARRIED
MISS CHURCHILL AND DANCER Received Dec. 25, 5.5 p m I NEW YORK, Dec. 23. Mr. Vic Oliver and Miss SaYah Churchill have booked passages in the Aquitania, which will sail at noon on Thursday. They announced that they would be married here prior to their departure, but the place and time are secret. Mr. Oliver regrets he is unable to await Mr. Winston Churchill, who is already en route to New York, but he is scheduled to appear at the Hotel Mayfair on January 4. A message received from New York on December 17 stated that business associates of Vic Oliver, the dancer, revealed that he had planned to marry Miss Sarah Churchill, the actress, daughter of Mr. Winston Churchill, in England, before Christmas. Oliver had a contract in "Carmen’ which permitted him to leave when he pleased, and it was reported that he was in New York preparatory to sailing. In September, Miss Churchill and her brother, Mr. Randolph Churchill, who arrived at New York within 24 hours of each other, refused to make any statement about the object of Miss Churchill’s visit. Vic Oliver left on a theatrical tour after declaring that “everything depended on the Churchill family.” Miss Churchill, who is 21 years of age, made her stage debut in London early this year as a chorus girl in a show in which Oliver also appeared. On September 16 Miss Churchill sailed unexpectedly for New Y'ork. It was believed that she accepted an invitation by Oliver to join his new show, “Shooting High,” at a salary of £l2 a week. The Daily Mail believed that, before leaving, Miss Churchill wrote to her mother intimating that she might soon become engaged to Oliver. When questioned at New York, however, Oliver said he had no intention of marrying a statesman's daughter. News that the actress would “elope” to avoid- parental objections to the match, and a later report of the sailing of her brother to prevent the wedding, if he could, attracted considerable attention. MARRIAGE REPORTED. Received Dec. 25, 7.30 p.m, NEW YORK, Dec. 24. Mr. Oliver and Miss Churchill wer* married in the chapel of a marriage licence bureau. Mr. Oliver became a naturalised American citizen two days ago. The pair later sailed on the Aquitania. The bride wore a 4i karat diamond engagement ring and a plair. platinum marriage band. She explained: “My father did not want me to marry unless I retained my British citizenship. As it is, I am still British and travel on a British passport.” Mr. Oliver said he had received a cablegram of congratulations from the Churchills. "My wife will resume her stage career when she returns to America," he added.
