G.C.M.G. AWARD
KING’S FIRST HONOUR .SULTAN OF ZANZIBAR LONDON, Dec. 23. The King's first honour, apart froir the Order of the Garter to the Queen is the conferring of the honorary Knight Grand Cross of St. Michae and St. George on the Sultan of Zanzibar.
His Highness Seyyid Sir Khalifa-bin-Harub-bin-Thuwaini-bin-Said was created K.C.M.G. in 1924. and K.B.E. in 1919. He was born at Muscat in 1879 and went to Zanzibar in 1893. He attended the Coronation of King George V, and was in England in 1929 as the guest of the Government. Zanzibar has been a protectorate of Great Britain since 1890, and the present ruler has been on the Throne since 1911, and is a firm friend of Britain, his influence steadying Moslem opinion in that part of the world during the [World War.
