Thought for the week:—‘'Fortune never favours the boy whose courage fails.’’ District Headquarters greatly appreciates the donation of printing by the “Wanganui Chronicle” Co., and tenders its grateful thanks lor this gift which will bo used to further tae Scout work in the district. Glasgow Eagle pack reports 32 cu«>s cn the roll—included in this numoe* are six two star cubs. 12 Ist. star, ana 11 tenderpads, who are steadily wording for their Ist. star, three new recruits have recently joined and are tenderpad work. Cub .lack A!lonics has passed the house orderly lest, and lan Bolton and Don Housed their collectors badges. Senior Sixer Noel Upchurch has been a very great help J o the pack and his outstanding abili-.y as a cub deserves praise. An assistant (whose name has nd been divulged) will be joining the pack very soon and is looked forward to with pleasure. Two cubs from the 3rd Kelburn Pack have recently joined and are doing well. New ideas have been assimilated under the tuition of the D.C.M. “Akela” was heartily welcomed back from the Hutt Valley and brought fresh ideas which when put into practice will prove helpful. The senior sixer has gone up to the troop and will be followed soon by several cubs. The pack meets between 2 and 3.30 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Hall, Glasgow Street, on Saturdays. We heartily welcome Cubmaster E. Davison back from visiting Ihe Hutt Valley packs, who sent their best wishes to the officers in Wanganui, some of whom are well known there. All the cubs met with in Wellington are very keen and the movement is reported to be going ahead in the Hutt Valley, great enthusiasm being observed by “Akela" Davison. In the event of a serious earthquake taking place in Wanganui all oific'r.s and Boy Scouts disengaged are to »e--port for duty at lhe Drill Hall with bicycles and 12 hours’ rations. Marton Cubs (Toe H.) reports having first and second test examinations recently, with prospects of good results. The final night for the pack meeting was held on the fhh. and will commence again on Hie iir. t V. ednesday in February. 1937. “Akela" Ella Watts, sends hearty greet mgs to all in the district, including the Guides, with best wishes for the New Year.

i Westmere Troop recently held a Church Parade which was well attended. An appropriate sermon was preached by Padre Fraser. The parade was in charge of the Scoutmaster. ***** Maxwell reports that the Cubs completed the year's activities last Saturday. “Akela” I. Morrison is well satisfied with the progress made. David Warsley, who joined recently, has passed his tenderpad and is quick at learning. S.M. Smith examined Russell Hughes for his 2nd. star, which he passed, and has now been promoted to senior sixer. He has the distinction of being the first cub to attain his second star. Others are now on the way. Most of the time from now on will be spent at the swimming pool. ♦ * * * Representatives from St. Mary’s Troop, under P.L. Daley, also Gonvill* Troop Pack under I.L.D. Walker, and Sixer Levestam with Glasgow Eagles Cubs, were present at the East Group’s birthday party. Also present, were members of the district executive. Four patrols formed lhe troop for inspection by His Worship the Mayor, Commissioners, and Members of Parliament, at the opening of the East Group’s Hall. P.L.’s E. Drummond, R Laird. J. Clark, and R. Couchman were leaders in charge, and Cub Sixers A Scot, G. Drummond. J. Bradley, were the leaders of lhe Cubs, with “Akela” Miss Nancy Wilson in lhe circle. The Dominion Haka and Grand Howl were an inspiration to the visitors. * * * * Good work is being done by Mr. G. S. McDonald, instructing the East boys in first aid, no doubt tfome proficiency badges will be the result. Mr. McCrorie’s instruction in square lashings has also been appreciated. At the East Group's 25th birthday celebration, the Metropolitan Commissioner was observed to be wearing the bull’s horn nut woggle presented to him by the Taihape Cubs at their I.lth birthday. * * * * All Saints' Church was comfortably filled by Scouts and Cubs, and a goodly congregation at. the church parade held recently.
