The Mayor, in expressing regret in losing the services of such an efficient manager, congratulated him on his new appointment. Similar complimentaryremarks were made by councillors and the town clerk. The following resolution was carried: That pursuant to Section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, an additional charge of 10 per cent, be added to all . rates outstanding for the period commencing April 1, 1936, and ending March 31, 1937, after six months and 14 days from the date of the demand. Foreman’s Report The borough foreman (Mr W. R. Brant) reported that during the past month the general maintenance work has been attended to. Two water and two sewerage connections have been installed. The following paths have been cleaned, tarred with local tar and sanded:—Signal Street, 25 chains Bft. wide; .Oxford Street, 10 chains Bft. wide; Queen Street, 10 chains Bft. wide. Stewart Street, Blackwell Street, Bowen Street, and Wellington Road footpaths have been cleaned and patched. Main Highways. Recoated with bitumen and chips: Station Road, 6u chains 24ft. wide; Wanganui Road, 24 chains 24ft. wide. Have recoated with bitumen and chips, Skerman Street and Follett Street. Skerman Street, 14 chains 12ft. wide; Follett Street, 4 chains Bft. wide. The main path in the park has received one I coat of bitumen and chips. Gas Manager’s Report The gas manager (Mr Duncan Macpherson) reported for the month:— All plant is working well, no trouble being experienced during the period. The re-sheeting of the small holder is progressing in a most satisfactory manner. During the month 40 tons llcwts. of coal was carbonised. The coke yield was equal to Bcwts. per ton of coal. During the month five new services were connected. Six new meters were installed, five ordinary and one slot. The following appliances were fitted:—One geyser, one bolt heater, three combination cookers, one copper for industrial use, and two cookers. The main in Wanganui road was extended about forty feet in order to lay a new seri vice of considerable length to a nearby farm. At the present time l we are very busy and will continue I so for some time as there is a con--1 siderahle amount of work on hand.
