RANGITIKEI CRICKET POREWA’S BIG SCORE CENTURY TO A. B. MARSHALL Qne of the biggest surprises for many seasons took place on Saturday, when the Rangitikei cricket competitions were resumed. Porewa, considerably weakened by the absence of several prominent players, gave the strong Marton eleven plenty of leather chasing, knocking up a creditable score of 260 before the innings I was declared closed. A. B. Marshall scored his second century of the season. He gave a

wonderful display, his cutting being perfect. His score of 135 included 17 fours, when he retired. He and V. Smith added 63 for the first wicket. It was also a day for the veterans, J. D. Smith giving a breezy exhibition for 36 before he retired, and A. M. Bousfield scored a surprise 34 unbeaten. It was Porewa’s day. The time at Marton’s disposal to secure the runs was too short and the batsmen played to a draw. B. V. Innes was dismissed second ball, but Smith and Openshaw then became associated in a valuable partnership of 68 runs before Smith was bowled for 65. Openshaw followed soon after. At. 6.30, the score was 128 for four, a drawn game resulting. Scores:— Porewa
