WANGANUI CLUB VISIT OF WELLINGTON INTER-CLUB EVENTS. SATURDAY NIGHT’S MEETING. The first electric ligiit sports meeting conducted by the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club for the 1936-37 season was held at Cook’s Sardens on Saturday night. The Dccasion was a visit of a strong team 3f athletes and cyclists representing the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club. On the aggregate of points, the Wanganui Club was successful by a comfortable margin. The programme was a lengthy one with running, cycling and field events, but the organisation was so efficient that the events were run in quick succession. A feature of the evening was the number of close finishes. The evening’s programme was opened with a parade of athletes representing the two clubs and led by the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band which also played a number of selections. A little humour was added to the evening’s sports by the inclusion of a 100 cards sack race. This event is popular in Wellington but it was the first occasion on which such a race has been held in Wanganui. The results of the racing were as follow, W signifying Wanganui, Wgtn.
