PALMERSTON'S ACTIVITY PALMERSTON ~ Nov. 27. I The area of land mentioned by the I Prime Minister in connection with the ; housing scheme for his city consists of 16:.) acres of education reserve at West I End. Probably building will be started in February. Ten acres of Crown land at Terrace End w 11 also be used i if there is a preference for that locality. but the first, consideration will be ’given to the West End area. The City Council, a a special meeting to-day, received information that the Housing Department contemplates fairly extensive activities in this centre. Negotiations are in progress for the exchange of a four-acre reserve held by the council in Fitzherbert Avenue lor a smaller Government area close by the Museum anc Art Gallery site, instructions ha\e been issued to the council’s engineer Ito prepare a plan of the council areas in the city which m ght be suitable for Government housing as the Government is seeking other sites.
