VICTORY FOR LABOUR
CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD RESULTS OF ELECTION. [ Per Press Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 28. Labour had an almost complete victory in the elections to-day for the Christchurch Tramway Board. There are nine seats on the board. One member, for one of three suburbar areas, Mr. W. J. Walter, was return ed unopposed. He describes himsel' as independent, but he has shown n< strong Labour leanings. In the Riccarton-Fendalton district Mr. A. McLauchlan, Citizens’ Association, was elected, displacing Mr. G. T. Thurston, Labour, who won at the last election on a minority vote. In the Heathcote district, Mr. J. S. Barr, Labour, has a lead over Mr. F. Thompson, Citizens’ Association, a former general manager of the tramways. Mr. Barr’s return seems certain, but the final figures are not available. In the Central area Labour won all six seats by handsome majorities. The elected members for this area are: Messrs. J. K. Archer. H. E. Denton, R. M. Macfarlane, G. Manning, J. M°»hison and E. Parlane, all Labour
