MORE ELECTRICITY USED. REINS PECTIN G IN ST ALL AHO NS. “There will be strong comment made on the question of re-inspection of consumers' installations/’ was a statement made by the electrical engineer of the Onakune Borough Council in a report submitted to that body. In his report the engineer stated: The Public Works Department official carried out an inspection of the area, including the recent extension to Perham Larsen and Co.’s, which has been recently completed at an actual expenditure of £287 17s 8d (estimated cost £300). The report of the inspection was not yet to hand, but it was not anticipated that much would be required to be done on lines and works generally. An assurance was given the attesting) officer inspecting, that the work of re-inspecting consumers' installations would be put in hand immediately and authority was requested for permission to detail a member of the staff to this work without interruption until it was completefl. To safeguard the councils interests it was advisable also that every assistance be given to consumers to enable them to carry out any work found necessary. After reasonable notice had been given consumers of the work required, he would have no alternative but to disconnect if the work was not carried out. SI MMER WEATHER. Glorious summer weather prevailed in Ohakune during the week-end and members of the bowling, tennis and croquet clubs turned out in full force. Numbers of residents made picnic excursions to the adjacent reserves, and although the mountain streams were somewhat chilly, quite a few look their first plunge. During the week-end anglers report that conditions for fishing were not too favourable, but towards evening trout were rising better, and some good catches are reported. Jhe fish were in good condition, although the weights were not exceptional. WAIMARINO SILVER BAND There was a good attendance oi bandsmen and supporters at the annual general meeting of the Waimarino Silver Band, Mr L. \v. Nation presiding. Annual Report The annual report su omitted was is follows:- In presenting the 25tn annual balance-sheet 1 am very pleased to show a small credit ba.ancc □wing to our small income we have to be careful, but we have been a very happy band and that helps a lot. Since October, 1935, the band nas played out 17 limes, besides carolling. We were also fortunate in being able to go lor iwo picnics. one at the Chateau and one to Pipiriki. On our way to the Cnateau we played at the Erua Prison Camp and this was much enjoyed by the inmates. We also played at Pipiriki. The band owes a great deal of thanks to Mr J. Murdie, who has at all times been ready to place his lorry at our services. The band has made good progress this year and practices have been well attended throughout the year, twice a week, which shows the members are keen to learn. With longer days coming we hope to he before the public fairly often. The balance-sheet was then read, and showed a credit balance of £2 19s 2d. Both the balance-sheet and report were then adopted. Perry then announced that the committee of three elected last year to decide the winner of the iiLurdie Eros.’ handsome silver cup and miniature had had a hard job but t heir decision had been unanimous. The winner this year would be Mr Jack Clemelt, the bass player’. This had been an outstanding case. Not twelve months ago he had joined and to-day was playing well. At the conclusion of the meeting a social function look place and a varied toast list honoured.
