MOTOR TRANSPORT
AUCKLAND AUTHORITY I Ter Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. ‘ The carrying of passengers by motor companies from cruise ships was mentioned before the Licensing Authority sitting this morning. A number of licences were issued, subject to an amendment that nothing in the licences authorise licensees to carry passengers on local trips provided in certain clauses of the schedule. The Authority was informed that as the result of a conference the companies concerned had come to a satisfactory arrangement in the interests of peace. “I think it is a very good move,” said the chairman of the Authority (Mr Phelan). Discussing applications for goods service licences, Mr Phelan expressed the opinion that licences should be issued for the whole of a county instead of a particular district, and that for a carrier to object to an extension of the area of another carrier was only tying a rope round his own neck. The less red tape there was the better.
