Throughout the match George was definitely the superior wrestler. George secured the only fall of the contest in the fifth round. Among those present were the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. L. Martin, the Mayor of Palmerston North, Mr. E. E. Mansford, and the member for the district, Mr. J. Hodgens. Davis’ weight was announced at 18st. 61b., and George was two stone lighter. In the fifth round George trapped his opponent into an Indian deathlock and secured an early submission. From then on the ex-champion was content to keep his opponent at bay and, apart from a chase round the ring and a few exchanges of arm jolts, the remainder of the contest lacked incident.
