BIG AMERICAN RACERS
£30,000 YACHTS In a letter from Honolulu a former New Zealander gives interesting particulars of a yacht, race that started jat San Pedro, California, and finished at Honolulu —a distance of 2339 miles. “During the last few days," he states, “we have been visited by a fleet of twenty-one yachts, which sailed from California to Honolulu, the winner arriving in the fast time of thirteen days and eight hours, which is considered very good time in view of the fact that light winds prevailed all the way. The winner was a boat of about 45ft. in length, but some of the yachts were from 70 to 85ft. length and fitted up like an ocean liner on a small scale. A number of the competitors were owned by moving picture stars and cost between £15,000 and £30,000. These small floating palaces are equipped with electric light, radios, electric re- | frigerators, cold storage, air-cooled cabins, and all the modern conveni--1 ences.”
